Tang and handle
Whittle tang & moulded plastic handle
The handle is moulded with a slot, into which the blade is forced, forming an extremely tight friction fit. Another method of producing this type of construction is to mould the plastic directly onto the whittle tang blade.
Neb tang & moulded plastic handle
Again, the handle is moulded with a slot, into which the blade slides. The blade is then securely held in place by compression rivets
Full tang & moulded plastic handle
Here the blade runs all the way through two handle 'scales'. These are then rivetted to the blade. Scales are plastic or wood.
Full tang with stainless steel
In this construction, stainless steel pressings are welded together on the blade and the joints are finished back to give a smooth construction.
Forged blade & bolster
Blade, bolster and tang are all solid steel, hardened and tempered, then ground to a high specification cutting edge. This method is used for professional knives and is reflected in the relatively higher price. Forged knives will have a 'bolster' where the blade meets the handle to add weight and balance. We take balance one step further, we're the first to match the weight of the blade with the weight of the handle for each individual knife.
